If you have a sister (or a best friend that’s pretty much your sister) you know time spent bonding is special. Dishing about what’s going on in each other’s lives while painting your nails, trialing new makeup looks or relaxing together while trying a new face mask is coveted time. That’s why we asked these two pairs of sisters to test and review Pacifica’s new Kale Charcoal Ultimate Detox Mask.

About the product

The Pacifica Kale Charcoal Ultimate Detox Mask is a green and black powerhouse detox blend that combines charcoal, clay, willowherb, aloe vera and kale extract to help fight blemishes, blackheads and oil.

Wear it as a mask, wait 5-10 minutes, then massage to loosen all the rest of the junk hiding out on your beautiful skin, and rinse off. It’s vegan and cruelty-free. Not to mention formulated without sulfates, parabens, or synthetic fragrance.

Jen & Michelle

Skin Types:

  • Jen - Normal with rosacea.
  • Michelle - Oily, acne-prone.

Initial Thoughts: Always a sucker for kale and some sister bonding, we couldn’t wait to try Pacifica’s charcoal mask loaded with clarifying clay, soothing willowherb, and of course kale. This green and black mask started to tingle as soon as we applied the delightful smelling paste. The mask started to dry instantly, showing our pore textures as it soaked in. Another essential part of the process? Chatting about our days while we excitedly waited to see what the results would be. We both loved the opportunity to relax together on a Sunday night and let the mask work it’s magic.

Application: This mask went on like a dream; we both really enjoyed the texture and consistency. The tube allowed for a clean application, which can’t always be said for a lot of masks I have tried in the past. This mask gave us all the benefits of a nutrient-dense DIY mask without the messy clean up. We didn’t need a ton of the mask for a full application, leaving lots of the product for additional use, making it a win for our wallets as well.

Final thoughts: As the bottle suggested, we waited for the full 10 minutes before taking the mask off. We LOVED the way it brought the blackheads to the surface. The mask truly felt as though any congestion was being sucked out of our pores. We couldn’t get enough of how our skin felt once we washed off the mask. Clay masks can get a bad rap for overdrying the skin, but this guy left our faces feeling nourished and silky smooth. The bottle also recommends applying a moisturizer to combat any loss of moisture that has occurred so we each followed up with our favourite moisturizers. Even the next morning we were still reaping the benefits - Jen’s rosacea was noticeably less inflamed and the pimple on my cheek had gone down in size.

Sinead & Ula

Skin Types:

  • Sinead - Combination skin.
  • Ula - Oily, acne-prone.

Initial Thoughts: It smelled great and not chemically like a lot of other products on the market right now.

Application: The mask went on easily and has a smooth texture. I thought it would make my skin hurt and eyes water like a lot of other charcoal masks out there but it didn’t. The mask was easy to smooth on my skin, not too thick. The tube goes a long way, there must be at least 25 masks in there, lots of sister time. When this tube is done, we can put it in the TerraCycle at terra20 instead of throwing away wrappers from single use masks!

Final thoughts: It removed a lot of blackheads from my nose. It left my skin really smooth and moisturized. Worth every one of my mom’s pennies! Sister masks are fun, but no joke, you’ll literally crack up. The mask is really good for icky blackheads and my skin felt so nice after it washed off, smooth and soft.

The moral of the story? Grab a sister, friend or partner and show your skin some love with this superfood food mask, that’s almost good enough to eat and let us know how it works for you!
