January.  A new year.  New beginnings.  A fresh start. Blah, blah, blah. With lockdown and curfews lingering, this year is anything but and for many of us, thinking about just surviving it all seems like about the best we can do.

But alas, amidst it all, maybe making wee positive steps will help fuel hope and generate enough positive vibes to help sustain us.  Now more than ever we could use a little help.

Try these on for size and see how they make you feel. Maybe there’s some joy here for you as you clean and care for yourself and the planet, both.  These are our top 20 picks. A good place to start and a simple way to say yes to a fresh start in 2021.

Our top 20 waste reducing, better for you, feel great products.

Cleaning

terra20 Liquid Dish Soap – Everyone washes their dishes, and this dish soap comes highly recommended. Canadian made, biodegradable and refillable at our ecobar to cut down on plastic waste. Available in our classic pomegranate scent and introducing the NEW unscented version!

“This is the best dishwashing liquid I have ever used! I love that it is not harmful to the environment and that I can refill the containers, reducing the use and disposal of plastics.” - Tamara

Nature Clean Dishwasher Pacs – Love your dishwasher, we totally get it, and that’s why these biodegradable dishwasher pacs made the top 20. No chlorine, dyes or phosphates. Available in bulk (60 pacs) or smaller (24 pacs) if you’d like to try them out.

“I bought these to try primarily because they are cruelty-free and vegan. I was honestly prepared for a sub-par performance (given that many "natural" products are garbage), but was pleasantly surprised. Works better than both Finish and Cascade - both of these left a film and Nature Clean does not. Also, the clean dishes just smell neutral when they come out, which is much better than any fragrance residue left by the previously mentioned products. Anyway, I definitely recommend and this will be my new go-to.” - Jen

Eco&eco Safix Scrub Pad – say buh bye to plastic and metal scouring pads, and try one that’s made from 100% coconut fibres. It will never cause splinters or shred in your hands. It will last for months, and when you are done with it just throw it in with the compost.

“The pad is more effective than other types that I have used in the past. It is durable, does a great job and dries quickly.” - Beverly

terra20 Cellulose Dish Cloth – Meet the cellulose and cotton dish cloth that can absorb 15 times its weight in water and can be washed up to 300 times without losing its absorbency. At the end of its life cycle, it only takes 28 days to compost!

Attitude Thyme & Citrus Disinfectant – The all-purpose disinfectant that kills 99.9% of germs. Using pure essential oils with natural antiseptic and antibacterial properties this cleaning solution will never leave potentially toxic compounds on surfaces. Plus, it’s biodegradable.

“I use this product everywhere. I keep one in the bathroom, one in the kitchen, and one in the car. The thyme scent is perfectly fresh and earthy and not at all overpowering!” - Christina

Definitely recommend knowing the size of your garbage can before buying them!” - Jenn

Bag to Earth Food Waste Bag – These little bin liner bags for compost speak for themselves. 100% compostable, they will only strengthen the relationship you have with your green bin.

“I’ve used these in my kitchen for years...for the bin below the sink. Great peelings, egg shells, food spiked paper towel, and espresso coffee grounds...etc. I also use them in the freezer drawer for smelly food waste like meat trimmings, and other bits of food waste that would smell or develop magots or attract bugs.. works like a charm.
